Part-time student staff vacancies

Role: School Rep Assistant x2

We are looking for up to 2 students to join the LMSU team as School Rep Assistants starting on 2nd September 2024 and then working term-time only until 2nd May 2025. 

The role is part-time for up to 13.5 hours a week and is flexible to fit around your studies in terms of days and hours. The rate of pay is £13.44 per hour including holiday pay. 

The Student Rep Scheme plays a critical role in ensuring a strong student voice at London Met and is one of the primary ways that the Students’ Union facilitates the representation of students’ academic interests. School Rep Assistants support the Student Reps scheme within the Students’ Union and University, working with Student Reps in the schools and liaising with elected officers and staff within the Students’ Union. 

These roles would suit you if you are passionate about improving the academic experience of students at London Met and have knowledge of the academic issues affecting students; have some experience of administrative tasks and the ability to undertake administrative procedures; You will also need to be a proactive self-starter who is able to work both independently and as part of a team; have basic IT skills, including using Microsoft Office; as well as having excellent organisational skills, communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to engage enthusiastically with students.

These roles are based at the Holloway and Aldgate campuses.  Successful applicants will be expected to work at both campuses throughout the academic year (term-time only).  Occasional remote working may be possible, but the expectation is that postholders will be primarily based on campus.

Role: Student Voice Assistant 

We are looking for a friendly and highly motivated student to join the LMSU team as Student Voice Assistant starting on 2nd September 2024 and then working term-time only until the 30th of May 2025. 

The role is part-time for approximately 10 hours a week and is flexible to fit around your studies. The rate of pay is £13.44 per hour including holiday pay. 

The Student Voice Assistant supports both the student representation and democracy team and the Advice Service within the Students’ Union providing a wide range of administrative, operational and events support to encourage student participation and engagement within our service 

This role would suit you if you are passionate about ensuring students have access to advice and representation; have a commitment to the democratic nature of the Students’ Union; have an understanding and appreciation of diversity; and a commitment to promoting inclusivity. You will need to have the ability to undertake a wide range of administrative tasks; be able to work both independently and as part of a team; have basic IT skills, including using MS 365, MS Teams and other digital tools; excellent organisational skills, communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to engage enthusiastically with students. 

Job role: 

  • To provide administrative and operational assistance to the Membership Team, supporting and encouraging student participation and engagement with the Students’ Union’s Advice Service, representation and democracy functions. 

  • To undertake a range of administrative and operational tasks that support the staff in the Membership Team 

  • To monitor, promote and help increase student participation and engagement in the membership team

Role: Student Activities Assistant x2

We are looking for a student to join the LMSU team as Student Activities Assistants starting on 2nd September 2024 and then working term-time only until 30th April 2025 

The role is part-time for approximately 10 hours a week and is flexible to fit around your studies. The rate of pay is £13.44 per hour including holiday pay. 

Student Activities Assistants support the Student Activities team within the Students’ Union, helping to ensure we deliver an excellent, student-led service to students and Student Groups and providing administrative, operational and events support to the Student Activities team. 

This role plays a crucial part in how LMSU supports students to get involved in the many Student Groups that already exist and to create new groups that provide even more opportunities for students to come together, make new friends and do something they’re passionate about. 

This role would suit you if you are passionate about helping students to explore new interests and meet new people, have an understanding and appreciation of diversity and a commitment to promoting inclusivity. You will need to be have the ability to undertake a wide range of administrative tasks; be able to work both independently and as part of a team; have basic IT skills, including using Microsoft Office; as well as having excellent timekeeping, organisational skills and communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to engage enthusiastically with students.

Role: Student Receptionists x3 

We are looking for students to join the LMSU team as Receptionists starting on September 2024 and then working term-time only until 30th May 2025. 

The role is a zero-hours contract and is flexible to fit around your studies. The rate of pay is £13.44 per hour including holiday pay. 

London Met?Students’ Union is here to support, represent and enrich the lives of all London Met students. The Students’ Union is a democratic organization overseen by a Board of Trustees, supported by a team of elected officers and professional staff.  

The Students' Union reception is there to help signpost and assist with:  

  • Student Activities and Societies  

  • Enquiries regarding VERVE Media and Student Council  

  • Advocacy referrals?  

The Student Receptionists will provide a student-led counter service to students visiting the Students’ Union, ensuring that excellent customer service, referral services and that assisting students remain a quintessential part of our service. The receptionists are required to support the promotion of activities for students and the Students’ Union as well as provide general administrative assistance to staff and officers within the Students’ Union.

We are seeking two (one undergraduate & one postgraduate) Student Trustees to join our Board of Trustees to oversee the development and growth of your Students' Union. This senior level volunteering opportunity will give you excellent experience in leadership and strategic development.

Commitment: 4 - 6 Board meetings per year, plus additional sub-committees if you chose to join one.
